Wiper party gives NASA 1-week notice

The Wiper Party has issued the National Super Alliance (NASA) with a seven-day notice to name its party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, as the presidential flag-bearer failure to which they will ditch the opposition.

National Assembly Minority Leader, Francis Nyenze, on Wednesday (29/03/17), indicated that Mr Kalonzo would not accept to be a running mate or any other position in NASA ahead of the August general election.

Nyenze, who represents Wiper in NASA coordinating committee, now wants the Opposition to honour the 2013 Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) MOU signed between Kalonzo and ODM leader, Raila Odinga, failure to which Kalonzo will run for president alone through his party.

“If the National Coordinating Committee (NCC) is not called this week, after next week we will not be available to attend their meetings. We must meet at a central place not at somebody’s office.

“If it is not Kalonzo, then that will be the end of NASA. It could change to something like Nyanza Super Alliance , because we will pull out,” stated Mr Nyenze at a press conference at Parliament buildings.

The minority leader noted that some members of the NCC incharge of selecting the NASA flag bearer were deliberately postponing meetings.

“I am not speaking as Nyenze, I am speaking for his Excellency Kalonzo Musyoka, the Wiper Party and the Kamba people, this is the last chance we cannot go round in circles trying to waste time,” Nyenze reiterated.

In January, the Wiper Party had demanded NASA to name a presidential flag bearer before the end of March.

The party stated it was committed to unity with Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress (ANC) and Moses Wetang’ula’s Ford Kenya arguing it was the only way to beat President Uhuru Kenyatta in the August poll.
