Kwale Senator Boy Juma Boy passed on Sunday (12/02/17) at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.
Juma’s family indicated that he had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit in Nairobi after being transferred from Mombasa.
According to Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo, his colleague and friend had been ailing for the past one week.
“Senator Boy has been sick for one week and has been receiving treatment in Mombasa Hospital before being transferred to Nairobi three days ago,” Madzayo said.
Senator Boy’s aide Hamisi Kidunga said the deceased’s body would be transferred to Mombasa later on Sunday before being taken to Kwale for burial on Monday (13/02/17).
President Uhuru Kenyatta, in his message of condolence to the family, described the fallen hero as an astute politician who will be remembered for his immaculate use of Kiswahili that spiced up public meetings and debates in Parliament.
“In this hour of sorrow, I convey my deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to Senator Boy Juma Boy’s family, relatives and the people of Kwale. My thoughts and prayers are with you,” President Uhuru said.
The President also praised the late Kwale Senator for his deeds in advocating for the rights of workers and the growth of the labour movement in the country.
ODM party leader Raila Odinga said the late Senator was not only a steadfast pillar in ODM at the Coast, but a committed and reliable champion for the rights of the downtrodden.
“I have learnt with great sadness of the passing of my friend and brother Senator Boy Juma Boy of Kwale County earlier today.
“A visionary leader and gifted orator, Boy’s untimely passing will no doubt be felt across the nation.
“I take this opportunity to offer my deepest condolences to his family, friends and to the people of Kwale County. May God comfort you at this most trying of times,” the former Prime Minister said.
Senator Boy has represented Kwale County since the 2013 elections.
