The announcement made on Thursday by the National Super Alliance (NASA), that they had settled on Kalonzo Musyoka as Raila Odinga’s running mate, has been recieved with mixed reactions in the Wiper Party.
Addressing the media on Friday (28/04/17), the National Assembly Minority Leader Francis Nyenze stated that the ‘Kamba Nation’ got a raw deal.
Nyenze revealed that NASA’s announcement came as a shocker both to the party and their supporters who were expecting Kalonzo to be named captain.
“We cannot assume that our people can just follow some instruction, they have to explain why Kalonzo was not picked as flag-bearer,” said Nyenze.
The Minority Leader noted that there was a bad feeling out after the declaration, noting that the expectations of the ‘Kamba Nation’ were thwarted.
Nyenze’s position was supported by Kitui Senator David Musila who stated that they were in the dark in regards to the deal by NASA.
The Amani National Congress (ANC) leader, Musalia Mudavadi, who announced the news on Thursday, will be the Premier Cabinet Secretary in charge of the state department of internal security and administration of the national government.
“It has been short but a fulfilling journey. A year ago this time, I was the only one talking NASA and the whole country is now singing about NASA.”
“We have come together as political parties, civil societies, business communities to take back our country. When I formed NASA, I never had me in mind. I had we in mind. I had you in mind and finally I had Kenyans in mind,” Mr Mudavadi stated.
In the new NASA structure, Opposition leader Raila Odinga will not enjoy absolute power should he beat the incumbent, President Uhuru Kenyatta.
