Former Real Madrid strongman proved his doubters wrong by scoring for Juventus against his old club with Argentinian striker Carlos Tevez adding a second with a penalty after a Cristiano Ronaldo equalizer for Real Madrid. The win gives Juventus a slim 1 goal advantage going into the return leg at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid, Spain.
Real entered the game with notable absentees such as talismanic midfielder Luka Modric and French forward Karim Benzema. This forced a shift in tactics as captain Sergio Ramos had to shift from defense to midfield for the third game running. However, this ploy was not effective as the game started in a frantic pace which saw the Spanish international miss a lot of tackles and this was evident in the build up to the first goal in the 8th minute as Carlos Tevez skipped past a few players to release a ferocious shot which goalkeeper Iker Casillas could parry only as far as the waiting Alvaro Morata who tapped it in. A look of anguish was on Real coach Carlo Ancelotti’s face as the player he disposed rather unceremoniously in the summer score against his team.
It did not take long for World Player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo to restore parity and give Real Madrid a crucial away goal as he headed home from a James Rodriguez cross in the 27th minute .The game became a violent affair as tackles flew around and the out of position Sergio Ramos had a bad day in terms of passing and distribution. Finally the Tevez factor again proved evident as he converted a penalty which ended up as the winning goal as he was fouled by Dani Carvajal after a quick counter attack in the early stages of the second half. The Italians held on for the win .However Ronaldo’s goal made him joint top scorer so far this season in the Champions league with 9 goals and also top in the all-time list with 76 one ahead of Lionel Messi.
