The helicopter carrying House Speaker Justin Muturi was forced to an emergency landing at a farm in the Aberdares due to bad weather. Witnesses however said none of those on board including Speaker Muturi were injured.
The chopper had left Miharati in Kipipiri Constituency, where the speaker had attended a fundraiser for the proposed Nyandarua County Cancer Centre where he was the guest of honour. Reports indicate that the pilot experienced foggy weather at Nyakio Ward in Kinangop Constituency, which made visibility impossible prompting him to land Kihunguru ACK grounds just ten minutes after takeoff.
Muturi and the other passengers on board were later picked by the police and driven to Nairobi. This incident had initially caused unrest and speculation online but a government official layer clarified. “The local security officials picked them and drove towards Nairobi where his motorcade picked him on the way. He and his team are ok.”
Before going to Nyandarua, Muturi had attended a different fundraiser at St. Brigit High School, Kiminini Trans Nzoia. Senator Wetangula, Governor Evans Kidero and Trans Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba were present at the event but did not fly to Nairobi.
The chopper, registered 5Y-GYM was guarded in the forest until Sunday morning when it left for Nairobi. The speaker was representing Deputy President William Ruto who was expected to be the guest of honour during the fundraiser organized by Nyandarua Woman Representative Wanjiku Muhia.
