Ruto Dismisses Raila Sentiments Over Graft War

Deputy President William Ruto has dismissed claims by former Prime Minister and CORD leader Raila Odinga on how President Uhuru Kenyatta is sleeping on the job in the fight against corruption in the country.
Addressing a gathering at a fundraiser at AIC Missionary College in Kapsoya, Uasin Gishu County, Ruto told those dismissing the Jubilee administration’s efforts in their fight against corruption to shut up. The DP went ahead to say that the government is trying to clean up the mess left by previous regimes in the country.
“They should shut up as we try to clear their mess,” said Ruto.
Raila Odinga said Uhuru Kenyatta’s leadership is not capable of fighting graft and blamed the government of playing public relations politics while corruption continues to spread.
“There is no commitment to fight corruption by the top leadership. The cancer continues to spread but there has not been any attempt to address the matter since the Jubilee government took over,” said Mr. Odinga.
In response, Ruto blamed those accusing the government of failure to tackle corruption as the ones who propagated scandals in previous regimes. “What is surprising is that the Opposition is accusing the Government of participating in cases of corruption and yet the bodies charged with the responsibility of fighting corruption were formed when those in opposition were in charge of the former Narc and the Coalition governments,” said Ruto
Ruto emphasized on the Jubilee administration’s commitment in the fight against corruption and says they will not tolerate corruption at any cost especially in the public service sector.
“Public servants must know that they would be held responsible to account for resources under their watch. There will be no orders from above or telephone calls as far as operations are concerned as in the case of procurement,” he said.
