RAILA-ODINGA

Former Prime Minister and now CORD Principal Raila Odinga has asked Parliament to deal with corrupt Public Accounts Committee members. The PAC led by ODM Secretary general and Budalang’i MP Ababu Namwamba has come under serious scrutiny after corruption allegations hit the committee.

Speaking to journalists at ODM’s Part Headquarters in the Orange House, Raila stated that the party does not entertain corruption at any level. He urged the Parliamentary Powers and Privileges committee chaired by Kuresoi North MP Moses Cheboi to investigate Namwamba and his accomplices.

Raila has also turned attention to officials at the office of the President who allegedly paid bribes to the Parliamentary Accounts Committee be investigated as well. Raila was receiving the ODM Disciplinary Committee report investigating the brutal attack on former Party Executive Director Magerer Langat, Raila said he does not want to be dragged into parliamentary issues.

On a light note, Raila compared PAC chairman Ababu Namwamba as dog that was sent to catch a thief, the thief entices the dog with meat and he runs away. The owner concentrates on the dog and forgets about the thief.

Raila has asked the investigating agencies not only to concentrate on the receivers of the bribes but the givers as well.

“If we talk about Corruption there is a giver and there is a taker, why are we not talking about the giver who is the Executive in this case?” he asked.

After appearing before the Cheboi led Committee on Wednesday, Mr. Namwamba demanded that the MPs who allegedly mentioned that he received bribes from Office of The President made to declare it publicly before the Privileges committee.

The Budalang’i Mp allegedly caught members of the grilling committee by surprise with the demand that the probe sessions be open to the public so that questions about integrity of MPs are exhaustively explored
