Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) members have come out to defend former Prime Minister Raila Odinga regarding the Ksh. 28 billion scandal meant for the renovation of the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret in which Deputy President William Ruto has been adversely mentioned. The members have told Deputy President William Ruto to stop blaming Odinga for all the problem he is facing in the Jubilee administration.
Kisumu Senator Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o, who is a former Health Services Minister had earlier been accused by Jubilee legislators as the one who initiated the projected, has responded to the allegations made against him. Prof. Nyong’o said that the Deputy President has “a tendency of putting the blame on Mr. Odinga whenever he is faced with problems”. Prof. Nyong’o has gone ahead to say that DP Ruto has developed an unapologetic culture over a series of scandals that he has been accused of in the past and is always dragging Mr. Odinga’s name into the mess. He warned the Jubilee legislators against linking him to the scam.
“He has no apology to make on having been involved in a questionable grabbing of his neighbors land. He has no apology to make over the tear-gassing of school children in Lang’ata on a land grab issue in which his name was mentioned. I am, therefore, not surprised that he has no apology to make over the scam at Moi teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret. As for the URP leaders who are dragging my name into their Jubilee mess, let them be warned: I can sting like a bee, “he said.
Last week, businessman and former aide of Mr. Odinga, Herbart Ojwang handed over a tape recording to the Parliamentary investments Committee in which he is heard saying that Mr. Odinga received a sum of five million shillings from China Wu yi as money for campaigns prior to the 2013 General elections. Mr. Ojwang claimed that he was pushed out of the deal by DP Ruto just because he was Raila’s ally.
Businessman Caleb Kositany allied to DP Ruto is accused by Mr. Ojwang as having demanded half of the commission that he was to earn from the contract. Mr. Ojwang said that Mr. Kositany was acting on behalf of and under the directives of DP William Ruto.
In response to the scam allegations, Ruto has told Mr. Odinga and Mr. Ojwang to stop the gimmicks or else he would retaliate in a furious manner.
“Some political saboteur and his personal assistant went to parliament to tell us how I stopped their project at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret. I am the one who stopped the project and have no apologies to make because the project was fraudulent, shady and corrupt from the beginning and it has no place under the Jubilee administration,” Ruto said.
However, addressing a press conference on Thursday in Nairobi, he said that the audio recording he handed over t o PIC was doctored and that he didn’t mention Mr. Odinga.
“The audio recording that I gave the PIC is not what is in circulation. I wish to reiterate that I stopped working for the Right Honorable former Prime Minister Raila Odinga more than 10 year ago, I went onto private business and I do not see why his name is being dragged into this,” he said.
