Concentration key for Red Devils as they face free scoring Russians
BY STEVE NJUGUNA
Manchester United play CSKA Moscow in Russia tonight and here are some talking points and key duels:
• Seydou Doumbia vs Daley Blind
Ivorian striker Seydou Doumbia has been in good form getting two goals against PSV Eindhoven and he may be the man to unlock Manchester United as his physical advantage and quality finishing will be a great boost against the less physical Daley Blind who is operating as a makeshift center back.
• Memphis Depay vs Himself
The Manchester United forward has been looking like a shadow of himself as disciplinary issues and inconsistent form have seen him relegated to the bench for the Red Devils. He needs to show that he is worth his expensive price tag by putting on a good show against the stubborn CSKA Moscow.
• Ahmed Musa vs Matteo Darmian
This duel will be interesting as the Nigerian is arguably the best forward in Russia and he has been the darling of the Moscow side with his speed and accuracy while Darmian has been stellar defensively since making a summer switch from Torino in the Italian top flight. If Musa goes past Darmian then Manchester United will undoubtedly be doomed.
• Captain Rooney: Striker? Midfielder?
Manchester United Captain Wayne Rooney broke his premier league scoring drought in their 3-0 weekend win over Everton but there will be questions asked over his best position as he is adept in midfield and can also hold his own when played as a center forward. It all boils down to how Coach Louis Van Gaal will name his lineup.
• Martial on the left or central?
Sensational teenager Anthony Martial looks inspirational in the center forward position but he was played on the left against Everton and had a quiet day in the office. Will he assume his normal position or will it be another case of silence?
