Defending champions Manchester city were subjected to a humiliating 2-1 defeat by lower mid-table opposition in the form of Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in London yesterday. This has gifted Arsenal a second place berth in the English Premier League table.
Scottish striker Glenn Murray scored his 5th goal in as many Premier League games in the 31st minute when he tapped in a rebound though initial arguments by City players say he was in an offside position when he scored. City tried to get themselves back in the game but Crystal Palace shut their potent attacking force out with a lot of compact play and a good defensive display.
Three minutes after half time, English winger Jason Puncheon curled a free kick into the bottom right corner past a hapless Joe Hart to give Crystal Palace a two goal cushion. However, Ivorian midfield strongman Yaya Toure rifled in a shot from 20 yards to cut the deficit to one goal but Crystal Palace held on for the win.
