Barcelona proved too strong for German giants Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions league tie as they demolished them by three goals to nil at the Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona, Spain. The occasion was extra special for Bayern coach Pep Guardiola as he was leading his team to Barcelona where he had had much success as a player and as a coach the past.
However, the night belonged to Barcelona captain Lionel Messi who attacked ferociously from the onset supplying balls to Dani Alves and Neymar who went close to scoring but could not beat Manuel Neuer who is highly regarded as the world’s best goalkeeper. Despite Bayern possessing a lot of the ball they did not pose a huge threat to Barcelona’s defense and Barcelona utilized their pace on the counter attack.
The breakthrough eventually occurred deep in the second half as Dani Alves dispossessed Mario Götze and passed to Messi who unleashed a ferocious shot from the edge of the box to score his first. Less than three minutes later, fans were treated to another masterclass as Croatian midfielder Rakitic played Messi through and Messi swiveled past a hapless Boateng and chipped past an oncoming Manuel Neuer to make it 2-0. Bayern poured men forward to get an equalizer but in the dying minutes of the game Barcelona launched a scathing counter attack and Neymar scored past a helpless Manuel Neuer to give Barcelona half a ticket into the Champions league final though they do have to play the return leg in Munich next week.
