Kenya Lands Tough Group In AFCON Draw

Harambee stars drawn in tough group in the race for qualification for Africa cup of Nations as neighbors Uganda and Tanzania get mixed drawings

Kenya has been handed arguably one of the toughest qualification groups in their bid to participate in the 2017 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations that will be held in Gabon. The Harambee stars have been drawn in Group E alongside Zambia, Congo and Guinea Bissau. The Harambee stars will be attempting to join the continental showpiece for the first time since 2002 where they were knocked out in the group stages.

Zambia were 2012 champions but Kenya will take heart from the fact that Zambia has been on a downward trend ever since failing to go past the group stages in subsequent editions and a dismal showing in the 2013 edition of the CECAFA challenge cup held in Kenya as Kenya  eventually ran out as winners. Congo, however, has all the signs of being the best in the group as they recently achieved a quarter final finish in the recently concluded African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Equatorial Guinea. Guinea Bissau are likely to be the group underdogs together with Kenya.

Neighbors Uganda have been given a fair deal as they drew Burkina Faso, Comoros and Botswana in Group Tanzania have been drawn alongside Chad, Egypt and Nigeria and will also have to be wary of former champions Egypt and Nigeria.
