The experienced Juventus squad dominated the pace of the game from the offset and did not invite pressure to their positions in what was largely a cagey affair.
Elsewhere, Champions league holders Real Madrid edged out their neighbors and Archrivals Atletico Madrid to proceed for the Semi-finals. Injury hit Madrid was without the likes of Luka Modric, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema out. Real coach Carlo Ancelotti made the ultimate gamble by playing defender Sergio Ramos as a defensive midfielder but he managed to silence the critics by putting in a solid shift. Atletico played a very compact game defensively but eventually were unsettled when talismanic midfielder Arda Turan was sent off in the second half for a second yellow card. Eventually, Manchester United loanee Javier Hernandez got the all-important goal after tapping in from close range from a Christiano Ronaldo assist. The win left the aggregate score at 1-0 as the first leg at the Vincente Calderon stadium ended goalless.
