Igathe is a poor judge of character, says Senior Counsel Ahmednassir

Popular lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi has taken a dig at Polycarp Igathe following his resignation as Nairobi Deputy Governor.

Senior Counsel Ahmednassir indicated on Friday night that Igathe’s decision should be condemned in the strongest terms possible.

“Polycarp Igathe’s resignation as Deputy Governor of Nairobi should be condemned in the strongest terms possible…for it shows what a poor judge of character he is..obviously he didn’t do his homework before he jumped into BED with Mike Sonko,” Ahmednassir said in a Twitter post.

Igathe resigned as Nairobi Deputy Governor, citing frustrations because he ‘failed to earn the Governor’s trust’, in what is blamed on strained working relationship with Sonko.

“Dear Nairobians, it is with a heavy heart that I resign my seat as elected Deputy Governor of Nairobi City County effective 1pm on 31st Jan 2018. I regret I have failed to earn the trust of the Governor to enable me to drive Admin & Management of the county,” he posted on his Twitter account.

“Without fear, favour or ill will I step down to avoid abusing or betraying my oath of office to Kenyans, Nairobians & my family. Thank you for the encouraging support given to me so far,” he added.

Surprisingly, he resigned hours after an interview with a local TV station where he appeared to defend their performance.

Sonko and Igathe won the Nairobi Gubernatorial race, 719,624, votes against Evans Kidero who garnered 576,578 votes in the August 8 2017 General Election.

Prior to joining politics, Igathe served as Managing Director Vivo Energy Kenya.

Igathe obtained a B.A. Economics and Sociology degree from the University of Nairobi and is a graduate of the Strathmore Advanced Management Program (AMP) with IESE Business School in Spain.

The technocrat also served Haco Industries for nine and a half years where he was the Managing Director Eastern Africa.

He also held other senior management positions at East Africa Breweries, Coca-Cola Nairobi Bottlers and Africa Online among other companies.
