Educate late Msando’s children, Boniface Mwangi tells IEBC

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has reacted following reports that it has neglected Eva Buyu, the widow of its former ICT Manager Chris Msando.

“We are hurt by the loss of our colleague Msando. We asked and still wait for answers.

“And as for support to the family, we feel this is not a matter to discuss here. But to all well-meaning people, rest assured we care,” IEBC responded to a tweet by activist Boniface Mwangi on Thursday (5/4/18).

Activist Mwangi challenged the electoral commission to come clean and address Ms Buyu’s plight after it emerged that she was looking for a job to cater to needs of her family.

“Eva Buyu, the widow of Chris Msando, who was brutally murdered in the line of duty is pleading with Kenya Police @JBoinnet to return her late husband’s car.

“She is appealing to @IEBCKenya to help educate her kids. She is also looking for a job to feed her children. @RailaOdinga,” Mwangi stated.

Last week, Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong ‘o claimed that Ms Buyu had requested a job from him.

Speaking during Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) function, Nyong’o said that Ms Buyu was looking employment to support the family.

According to the Kisumu boss, Eva further outlined that IEBC had abandoned their promise to support the family.

“I don’t want to submit myself to another man in order to feed my children. I will appreciate any decent job that will enable me to cater for my family,” Ms Buyu allegedly told Nyong’o.

The slain Msando died a painful death just days before the August General Election in 2017.

A cursory look at his remains, in July 2017, revealed a struggle with his killers, who overpowered, hit and finished him.

The body had visible injuries in the back and left side of his head and on his belly. Both hands had cut wounds and the right forearm was broken.

His face had no injury but fresh blood was oozing from the nose. The neck also had many injuries, which pointed to strangling and bludgeoning by the death squad.

According to a postmortem done in August 3, 2017 by the Chief Government Pathologist, Johansen Oduor, Msando died from strangulation.
