Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru has resigned citing health concerns. In a press statement released on Saturday the 21st of November 2015, the CS submitted her resignation to the President saying recent pressure has affected her health and family.
In her statement to the media at her office on Saturday afternoon, Waiguru said she made the decision to quit due to health reasons.
“In view of the impact these events have had on my health, I have been advised by my doctor to take time off to recover and to undertake much lighter duties for some time,” said Waiguru at the news conference.
“I have therefore, following my doctor’s advice, requested his Excellency the President to relieve me of the responsibilities of the Cabinet Secretary for Devolution and Planning and should he find it fit, to accord me such lighter duties as he shall deem appropriate.”
She however insists that she is innocent over the massive corruption in her office that led to huge public outcry calling for her to step aside.
Waiguru says she was the whistle blower yet she has been publicly accused of masterminding the corruption in her office.
She says her family and even her children have been affected and even in some instances attacked.
Waiguru has resigned in the heat of public outcry calling for her exit from office following a series of graft allegations in her ministry. The opposition and some law makers in the ruling coalition has previously called for her resignation to give way for investigations over the Sh800 million financial scandal at the National Youth Service NYS.
