Opportunity is often difficult to recognize; we usually expect it to beckon us with beepers and billboards. According to Hugh Allen, jumping at several small opportunities may get us there faster than waiting for one big one to come along.
Entrepreneurship is the process of starting a business; typically a startup company offering an innovative product, process or service. The entrepreneur perceives an opportunity and often exhibits biases in taking the decision to exploit the opportunity. The exploitation of entrepreneurial opportunities includes design actions to develop a business plan, acquire the human, financial and other required resources, and to be responsible for its success or failure.
It is said that youthful minds have the capacity to be creative. It is because of this that Daystar University has organized a two day Startup/entrepreneurship forum to be held on 9th& 10th September 2015 at their Athi River Campus.
The forum will mainly focus on university students who are running their own businesses, those developing business ideas, projects, developed IT software and those from the University’s school of business and economics (SCOBEC) that are looking for opportunities to penetrate the market.
The two day event is an initiative born of the International Students Association of Daystar University (ISADU) and a few entrepreneurs, strengthened through various departments in Daystar University. The initiative is geared towards giving companies and organizations from outside Daystar University a platform to have a one on one interaction with the students who form potential avenues for investment and potential employees.
The first day of the forum will include various displays from different entrepreneurs around the school campus; video and photography, art gallery and design, food and drinks, beauty and fashion, hairdressing and cosmetics, jewelry and accessories, transport services, technological discoveries, projects and business solutions.
The second day will include similar displays and will be culminated by an evening Gala event where different speakers from different organizations will share their experience with students. There shall also be a beauty pageant where various models shall showcase selected items from various businesses.
Such forums are becoming increasingly popular in universities across the country as institutions seeks more real life experiences and wisdom for their students while companies are seeking to interact with the next crop of employees and business leaders. Student entrepreneurs are also looking forward to these forums as they seek more face-time with potential investors for their ideas. Everyone seems to be getting something out of appearing at the events.
There is a guaranteed visibility for featured sponsors who will be prominently exposed in front of a crowd (students, staff and other companies) who will be in attendance. Valuable feedback from current clients can also be sourced while potential clients can give reasons why they do not prefer certain brands. This can in turn inform changes to attract untapped markets.
The forum will also provide a platform for the sponsors to launch themselves into the market and sell their goods and services for two days, penetration and interactions with university students and access to the 30 nations represented in Daystar University. As a bonus, the companies could see themselves invited back for more interaction with the university, which is potentially an unending stream of customers and investment opportunities.
In order to achieve the huge scores of life, you have to start by collecting all the opportunities coming your way no matter how small, this is one of them.
Come let us promote our youths.
