The Portuguese forward has become Real Madrid’s all-time top scorer after scoring an incredible haul and providing an assist. He scored five goals as Real Madrid trashed Espanyol 6-0 on Saturday.
After notching a first-half hat-trick in the first 20 minutes, Ronaldo sent home Gareth Bale’s cross in the 61st minute to get his fourth of the day and take his goal scoring tally to an incredible 229 goals, moving him past previous record holder, the legendary Raul on the club’s scoring charts, before striking again later on.
The former Manchester United forward achieved the feat in just 203 appearances for the Los Blancos. Real Madrid legend, Raul scored 228 goals in a total of 550 appearances.
French striker Karim Benzema also found the net as Madrid ran riot of Espanyol. The win means Rafael Benitez’s squad have bagged 7 points from three outings at the start of the new season. Cristiano Ronaldo now proves a nightmare at the sight of Espanyol as the forward struck a hat-trick in the corresponding fixture last year and needed just 20 minutes to repeat the feat this time round.
After starting the season on a blank in his side’s opening two games of the season, Ronaldo silenced his critics by breaking the deadlock after seven minutes. Luka Modroc’s cross towered past the Espanyol defense finding Ronaldo who slotted it to the bottom right corner.
Ronaldo made no mistake from the penalty spot to give Madrid the second after Gareth Bale was fouled in the penalty area by Alvaro Vazquez. Bale also had a hand in Ronaldo’s third goal, swinging in a sharp cross from the left wing finding Ronaldo who volleyed it in with his left foot.
The Portuguese captain then turned provider for Madrid’s fourth squaring the ball across to find Benzema who made no mistake. Real’s fifth arrived just after the hour mark, with Bale once again providing the assist. His low cross from the right flank with the outside of his left foot found Ronaldo who scored his fourth for the day, and also reach his record breaking 229th La Liga goal from close range. He didn’t wait too long to put things beyond doubt as he netted his 230th La Liga goal and his fifth for the day, with substitute Lucas Vazquez providing the assist.
