Chelsea held Arsenal to a goalless draw away at the Emirates stadium in North London in Sunday’s 6 pm match. The atmosphere was electric as three points for Arsenal would put them into the title race while prior to this match Chelsea needed only 6 points to win the English premier league.
The surprising thing was that Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho set his side out playing without a striker as Mourinho did his trademark move of playing defensively since a draw would still be as good as a win for Chelsea. Arsenal controlled the tempo for the majority of the game but Chelsea’s compact game prevented them from making many clear cut chances.
At halftime veteran Chelsea striker Didier Drogba came on to provide more balance for Chelsea going forward but Chelsea’s conservative game plan did not play well for him as he got little service. Arsenal pressed on through the likes of Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez but the defensive setup from Chelsea was outstanding with Captain John Terry putting in a man of the match performance. The win sees Chelsea on 77 points needing to get to 82 to win the league as Arsenal is 10 points back at 67 points, level on points with Manchester city but having played a game less.
