Real Madrid continued their sparkling form despite missing talismanic forward Karim Benzema to injury as they cruised to a 4-2 win over Celta Vigo on Sunday night. Benzema’s presence was hardly missed as Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez who has played as a substitute for most of the season stepped up to the plate and delivered a man of the match performance scoring twice, less than a week after scoring the winning goal in Real’s triumph over bitter rivals Atletico Madrid in the UEFA champions league quarterfinals.
The game started at a frantic pace as former Barcelona forward Nolito scored with a sublime piece of individual skill in the 9th minute. However German midfielder silenced Celta Vigo fans with an equalizer only 7 minutes later. Chicharito put Real ahead again in the 24th minute but Celta fought back again with an equalizer from Celta forward Santi Mina. Real Madrid took the lead with a deflected shot from James Rodriguez as the first half ended. The game continued as Celta looked for a way back but Chicharito finished off the job in the 69th minute after being put through by Sergio Ramos. The win keeps Real Madrid’s La-Liga hopes alive.
